Assessor Question:
I’m working on a project in NSW (subject to BASIX and NCC2022), currently being modelled in BERS 5.0.
The project is using the Cupolex® void forming slab system, where a concrete slab is poured over modular dome void formers. This system effectively creates an air gap between the underside of the slab and the under-slab insulation layer, which is laid directly over the ground.
Given that BERS does not have a direct option for void slab systems, I’ve currently modelled this using:
- Construction Type: Concrete slab on ground
- Insulation: Bulk insulation (as proposed by client), with Gap to Floor
I wanted to confirm:
- Whether this is the most appropriate method to reflect the Cupolex® system, or
- Is there a more accurate or preferred approach recommended for this type of slab configuration?
TechLink Response:
What you are proposing to do is currently the most correct way to model this in BERS. These void forming slab systems do not provide the insulation properties as a waffle pod so slab on ground as per the thickness of the slab on top and any included insulation as per your example is the best option. Thank you.
