Assessor Question:

If a client specifies a window supplier for a project that has casement and awning windows but does not have a code in the software for fixed windows, what do you recommend we put in for the fixed window?

As an example, see below and attached from Trend. They do not have a separate code for a fixed window and in their brochure they suggest the code to use (which happens to be an awning window). They also suggest to use the same code for their casement windows although I noticed that they do have a casement version in the software.

So is it ok to use this code for fixed windows even though it is not actually a fixed window?

TechLink Response:

  • It is recommended that you speak to Trend regarding the fixed values.
  • Fixed windows generally have a higher SHGC due to less amount of frame.
  • If they state the value is correct, have them confirm by email and state it on FR5 additional information and file the information in your materials library.
