Assessor Question:
How long do accredited assessors need to keep the files and supporting information for ratings completed?
TechLink Response:
- Standard, professional, record-keeping requirements are confirmed in the Design Matters National Accredited Thermal Performance Assessor (TPA) Code of Conduct. Clause 4v) indicates that comprehensive documentation must be maintained for seven years.
- Independent legal advice may suggest the records are kept for longer.
- In practice, it is unlikely that disputes regarding TPA work product would be raised after seven years, but in the event that mandatory disclosure provisions are introduced at point of sale or lease transactions, the accuracy of energy ratings may be brought into question at a later time.
