Region: NSW

Assessor Question:

Please clarify if my assumption is correct.

A dwelling under NSW 2022 standards will be required to comply with the new total loads as this triggers the 7-star result.

Example climate zone 56
Individual total load is 30 - 7 stars
Apartment maximum total load is 38 - 6 stars

TechLink Response:

  • The NatHERS Star band numbers for Climate Zone 56 are currently the same in for NCC 2022 as they have been previously.
  • 7 Star 39MJ/m2 and 6 Star 51MJ/m2
  • The BASIX Heating and Cooling load limits for slab on ground floor type for lowest conditioned zone have been 40MJ/m2 Heating and 26MJ/m2 Cooling in FR5 5.3.2b. These have not yet been updated in v 5.4.1
  • The BASIX documentation for Proposed Higher Standards indicates, in table 1 for Class 1 detached or semi-detached dwellings, that for Climate zone 56 the max total will be 30MJ/m2 with caps of 24.4MJ/m2 for heating and 17.9MJ/m2 for cooling.
  • Other tables in the document set different standards depending on the type and size of development in question.
