Assessor Question:

I have a project where the neighbour’s tree has been cited as being 'protected'. Could I please have some advice as to if this should be acknowledged or not?

TechLink Response:

  • Shade obstruction can be on the subject site or nearby properties.
  • Protected trees, like buildings and other obstructions that cause shading that may detract from winter performance or enhance summer response, should be included in the NatHERS model.
  • If they equate to single-storey massing within 10m or 20m for double-storey objects, they should be included.
