Question:

In the 2019 NCC in South Australia for the purposes of energy efficiency assessment, a sunroom or the like is deemed to be a class 10a building and must comply with 3.12.1.6. Therefore when conducting a NatHERS assessment within South Australia could an unconditioned sunroom or the like be zoned as a Garage?

TechLink Response:

  • If the SA variation discusses sunrooms as needing to comply with 3.12.1.6 it is nominally alluding to Elemental DtS compliance confirmation.
  • NatHERS Technical Note Appendix 1 can be of assistance in this instance for appropriate treatment for NatHERS DtS confirmation.
  • The ‘Outdoor Living Areas’ zone description at the bottom of the table is probably the best fit.
