Assessor Question:

I am modelling a house with a built in alfresco area - this area is completely built in with brick walls, windows and fly screen security French doors and is under the same roof line as rest of house; I have made this zone 'unconditioned' as no mechanical heating or cooling. This area connects to the Kitchen/living area, the wall between the kitchen living and built in alfresco is an external brick veneer wall that has x2 large glass sliding doors in it (3900mmL); when I calculate it comes up with message 'Zone: Built in alfresco contains window: sliding door in internal wall: Please remove window or change wall connects zone property.' when I click on the wall in question the connect zone line is greyed out so unable to change properties; not sure if I have completed this correctly or how to change properties of zone/wall to assist calculation.  I understand that the built in alfresco areas are a bit of a grey area with FR5, this one would effect performance of kitchen/living

TechLink Response:

  • The alfresco fits the definition of NatHERS Technical Note Appendix 1 zone description table as “Outdoor living area”. As such it is not included as a zone but as eaves, wing walls and shade screens.
