State: All (while this example cites Qld, the same rule apply across all jurisdictions)

Assessor Question:

Hi, what are the rules around secondary climate zones ? I have a project in QLD whos default is 9 but secondary is 10

CZ 9 achieves 7.2 stars whereas CZ 10 achieves 8.9 stars

Are there any rules around us choosing the higher performing zone?

TechLink Response:

The secondary zone is intended to be used where part of a postcode may have a different micro-climate - for example part of a postcode may be located in higher terrain that is colder and windier than lower areas of the postcode.

You must provide supporting justification/evidence for use of the alternate climate zone and explain this in the additional notes
You cannot use an alternate climate zone simply because it "rates better".

Assessors should refer the NatHERS Technical Note clauses 4.1, 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 for clarification.
