Region: All States

Assessor Question:

Can I please be advised on my ability, as a NatHERS Accredited Assessor, to conduct energy rating assessments in all the States and territories in Australia?

TechLink Response:

  • Accreditation with Design Matters National carries national recognition based on the Protocols set in place by the NatHERS Administrator.
  • That said, the States and Territories set the parameters of practitioner registration under their Building Acts.
  • Those instruments currently do not mandate the involvement of Accredited Assessors except for NSW where the BASIX reporting system requires that when the simulation method is employed then the NatHERS rating must be carried out by an Accredited Assessor.

  • If conducting accredited assessments in NSW you will additionally require BASIX (Building Sustainability Index) compliance. You can learn more here
  • Other jurisdictions encourage the use of Accredited Assessors to reduce the risk to the Building Surveyor/Certifier, on the understanding that work by unaccredited people may not be as reliable.
  • DMN has been and continues to work with all the States and Territories to mandate the use of Accredited Assessors for the preparation of NatHERS ratings for NCC compliance purposes.
