Query:

Should nails, hinges, flanges, or any small, pieced hardware need to be included? We are primarily planning to use SIP and connecting SIPs may require some hardware. Do these need to be included in the assessment?

Response:

There is no specific requirement for entrants to calculate the exact quantity of nails/screws/bolts/fixings.  This would be a very arduous approach.

It is however already included in the spreadsheet.

In the last data entry page of the True Carbon Spresdsheet the embodied carbon of these are added as an average based on the size of the house.  So it is already in there at a basic level.

If entrants have a good argument why their construction type uses a lot less fixings than standard construction, there may be some embodied carbon savings but they would be small.  In such a case entrants should note the likely saving in their submission discussion for judges to consider.
